Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on booking, sizing, what's allowed in the container, delivery logistics, and permits — from the team that actually runs the trucks.

We get the same handful of questions on nearly every call, so we've put the answers here. If you don't see what you need, call us directly at (603) 634-9248 — a real conversation still catches details a page like this can't, especially around tight driveways or job-specific timing.

These answers cover how booking and pricing work, how to pick the right dumpster size, what materials are and aren't allowed, how delivery and placement work, and what to know about permits in Manchester and the towns we serve.

Booking & Pricing

How does booking a dumpster with Granite Dumpster Rental Manchester work?
You call (603) 634-9248 and tell us about your project — what you're clearing out, roughly how much debris, and your address. We help you choose the right size, confirm a flat-rate price on the spot, and schedule delivery. We're a call-first business rather than an online-booking-first one, because a quick conversation usually catches details — like a narrow driveway or a shared access road — that a web form skips.
What does "flat-rate pricing" actually include?
Delivery, the rental period, a set tonnage allowance, and pickup are all included in the one price we quote you. There's no separate fuel surcharge or environmental fee added to your invoice afterward — the number we give you on the phone is the number you pay, provided you stay within the agreed weight and rental window.
What factors affect the cost of my rental?
Container size is the biggest factor, followed by the type of debris (heavier material like concrete or roofing shingles factors into tonnage), your rental period, and your location within our southern NH service area. Our 10-yard container runs roughly $350–$550 depending on the job; every other size is quoted directly on the call since project scope varies too much for one flat published number to be accurate.
How do I pay, and when?
We'll walk you through payment when you book by phone. Because we dispatch our own trucks and set our own pricing, there's no third-party billing platform in the middle — you're paying the company that's actually delivering and picking up your container.
Can I extend my rental if I need the dumpster longer?
Yes — call us before your standard 3–7 day rental period runs out and we'll work out an extension. It's easier to arrange ahead of the pickup date than after a driver has already been dispatched to collect the container.

Choosing a Size

What dumpster sizes do you offer?
Five sizes: a 10-yard, 15-yard, 20-yard, 30-yard, and 40-yard container. Each one is sized differently and suited to a different scale of project, from a garage cleanout up to a full construction site.
Which size is most popular?
The 20-yard is our most-requested size. At 22' × 7.5' × 4.5' and roughly 3–4 tons of capacity, it handles whole-house cleanouts, larger remodels, roofing jobs up to about 50 squares, and landscaping projects — it's the middle-ground size that fits the widest range of jobs.
How do I know what size I need?
It comes down to project type and volume. A single-room renovation or yard cleanup usually fits a 10 or 15-yard. Whole-house cleanouts and larger remodels typically call for a 20-yard. Whole-house or new-build construction projects often need a 30-yard, and major demolition or commercial fit-outs are where a 40-yard makes sense. Call us and describe the job — we size these every day and can usually recommend a size in under a minute.
What's the smallest and largest dumpster you rent?
Our smallest is the 10-yard, at 14' × 7.5' × 3.5' and about 1–2 tons — roughly 50–70 trash bags or 3 pickup-truck loads. Our largest is the 40-yard, at 22' × 7.5' × 8' and about 5–6 tons — roughly 230–250 bags or 12 pickup-truck loads.
What if I order a size and it turns out to be too small?
Call us as soon as you realize it — if it's still early in your rental, we can often swap out for a larger container. It's more efficient to size correctly up front, which is exactly why we walk through project details with you on the booking call instead of just taking a size request blind.

What Can and Can't Go In

What can't go in a standard roll-off dumpster?
Paint, fuel and oil, chemicals, solvents, asbestos, batteries, tires, hazardous or medical waste, and refrigerants that need evacuation (like refrigerators or air conditioners) are not allowed in a standard container. If you're not sure whether something on your job site qualifies, ask us when you book — it's easier to flag before delivery than to deal with on pickup day.
What can I put in the dumpster?
General construction and demolition debris, household junk, furniture, flooring, drywall, roofing material, and yard waste (subject to its own rules — see below) are all fine in a standard container. If your project is mixed debris from a cleanout or remodel, that's exactly what a roll-off is built for.
Is yard waste treated differently from regular debris?
Yes — yard waste has its own separate exclusion list, different from the standard prohibited-materials list. Treated or pressure-treated wood, plastic planters, fertilizers, chemicals, and bagged household trash are not allowed in a yard-waste load, even though some of those items would be fine in a general debris container. If your project is mixed — yard cleanup plus household junk — tell us on the booking call so we set you up with the right container type.
What happens if prohibited material ends up in my dumpster?
Let us know as soon as possible if something prohibited accidentally went in — materials like paint, chemicals, or asbestos require special handling and can't go out with a standard load. Flagging it early is always better than having it discovered at pickup.
Can I fill the dumpster past the fill line or add extra weight?
Every container has a tonnage allowance built into its flat-rate price, based on its size. Filling above the rim isn't safe for transport, and weight significantly over the allowance may involve an added charge — ask us about your specific project's expected weight when you book so there are no surprises.

Delivery & Placement

What does my property need for delivery?
We need roughly 60 feet of clear space for the truck to back the container in, about 25 feet of overhead clearance (watch for low tree limbs or wires), and a flat, hard surface like a driveway or paved lot to set the container on. Tell us about your site when you book so we can plan the drop ahead of time.
Can the dumpster go on the street instead of my driveway?
In some cases, yes, but placement on a public street or right-of-way in Manchester requires an Encumbrance Permit from the City — see the permits section below. Off-street placement on your own driveway or lot is simpler and doesn't require that step.
What if my property has tight or difficult access?
Tell us about it when you call. Narrow driveways, shared access roads, low overhangs, or sloped lots are all things our drivers deal with regularly across Manchester and the surrounding towns — we'd rather know in advance and plan the right placement than have a truck arrive and find out on-site.
Do you offer same-day delivery?
Yes, same-day and next-day delivery are both available depending on our schedule and your location within our Manchester and southern NH service area. Call (603) 634-9248 as early in the day as possible for the best shot at same-day delivery.
How long can I keep the dumpster before pickup?
Our standard rental period is 3–7 days. If you need it longer, call ahead of your scheduled pickup date and we'll work out an extension rather than dispatching a driver to collect it on the original date.

Permits & Local Rules

Do I need a permit to have a dumpster delivered in Manchester?
If the container will sit on your own driveway or private property, generally no permit is needed. If it needs to sit on a public street or right-of-way, the City of Manchester requires what it calls an Encumbrance Permit — the standard municipal permit for anything occupying public space. Confirm the current fee and process with the City of Manchester Streets and Sidewalks Department directly, since those details can change.
How do I apply for an Encumbrance Permit?
The process is handled through the City of Manchester Streets and Sidewalks Department. We recommend contacting them directly to confirm current requirements, since we don't control municipal permitting and don't want to quote you a fee or timeline that might have changed.
Do the surrounding towns you serve have their own permit rules?
Placement rules can vary by town, especially for street or right-of-way placement. If your project is in one of the towns we serve outside Manchester — like Bedford, Derry, or Hooksett — and you're not placing on your own private property, check with that town's local office. In most residential driveway placements, no permit is needed.
What towns and counties do you serve?
We serve Manchester plus Bedford, Goffstown, Hooksett, Auburn, Derry, Londonderry, Merrimack, Candia, Chester, Litchfield, Raymond, Bow, Allenstown, and Dunbarton — spanning Hillsborough, Rockingham, and Merrimack counties. See our full service area for details on each town.
Are there disposal rules I should know about beyond permits?
General debris disposal follows guidance from the NH Department of Environmental Services, and our standard prohibited-materials list (paint, fuel, chemicals, asbestos, batteries, tires, hazardous or medical waste, and refrigerants) applies regardless of which town you're in. Yard waste has its own separate rules — see the "What Can and Can't Go In" section above.
